SAP has been promoting its BusinessObjects solutions in recent times. Now, it intends to offer a robust mobility platform through its (planned) acquisition of Sybase. Together this is a very potent combination that SAP customers should be looking to take advantage of. They should commence their enterprise mobility efforts with an assessment exercise that will yield a strategy and roadmap for deploying smartphone based mobile applications within their enterprise -- and the strategy should be solidly based on leveraging their entire range of investments in SAP offerings.

At Sapphire 2010, not only did SAP discuss their intent to acquire Sybase, but they also announced Project Gateway. Project Gateway is an API layer (gateway) that is designed for simple mobile applications and M2M (machine to machine) integrations.
